ToggleMANDI/GULIKA
According to Vedic Astrology Mandi or Gulika is Upgrah of Saturn. Gulika is also said to be the broken feet of Shani. It is considered that Mandi is extremely malefic in nature just like Saturn.Gulika, which is also known as ‘Maandi,’ is the offspring of Manda or son of Saturn. It is an imitative planet according to the notion in South India particularly in Kerala. Vedic astrology makes out a set of two non-luminous shadowy planets, namely Rahu & Ketu.
Mandi Upgraha is a pseudo planet in Vedic astrology. It is also known as Gulika, Mandi, or Kulikan. Mandi is considered to be a malefic sub planet and is said to cause delays, obstacles, and misfortune in the life of a native. Mandi is calculated by dividing the day into eight parts, each ruled by a different planet.
MANDI CALCULATIONS
The eighth part of a horoscopeIt is the birth chart of the native in all cases. It shown a… More, ruled by Saturn, is known as Mandi or Gulika, and can be calculated for day time birth by dividing the day from sunrise to sunset into eight equal parts, with each part being ruled by a different planet based on the order of the weekdays. The eighth segment is Niresh. It has no lord. The cusp of the sign rising at the beginning of the Gulika segment is considered as Gulika. For night-time birth, the first segment (the first one-eighth of the night) belongs to the planetary lord of the weekday that falls fifth from the weekday under consideration.
The subsequent segments belong similarly to other planets that rule the weekdays in natural order. For night birth, time from sunset to Sun rise is taken and divided into eight equal parts. In each case, i. e. for day time and night time, the part belonging to Saturn is known as Gulika. The last eighth part here too is without a lord. Cast an ascendantIt is the first house in the horoscope. More for end part of Saturn. This gives longitude of Gulika or Mandi.
Other method of MANDI calculation
When the day and night are of 30 Ghatis (12hrs) each, for a day birth, the Mandi rises at the end of 26 Ghatis on Sunday, at 22 Ghatis on Monday, at 18 Ghatis on Tuesday, at 14 Ghatis on Wednesday, at 10 Ghatis on Thursday, at 6 Gjatis on Friday, and at 2 Ghatis on Saturday. In case of night time birth, consider the values given for the day falling fifth from itself, e.g.,10 Ghatis from the onset of night on Sunday, 6 Ghatis on Monday, 2 Ghatis on Tuesday, 26 Ghatis on Wednesday and so on.
The formula for the calculation of time rise of Mandi is given below:
