These Kootas have 36 Gunas that are to be compared for calculating the compatibility between bride and groom. The eight Kootas are: Varna, Vashya, Tara, Yoni, Maitri, Gana, Bhakoot and Nadi.
Varna or Jati :
It is the first Koot holding 1 score. There are four Varnas Brahmin, Kshatriya, Vaishya, and Shudra as per moon sign of the individual.
