Longevity Calculation
For longevity Calculations in Vedic astrology the position of the 8th house determines the longevity of an individual. Auspicious effects in the eighth house give good longevity, while malefic planets reduce longevity of a native. Saturn, is a karaka of the 8th house, if it is present in the 8th house, it gives long longevity to the native.
Longevity Calculations in Vedic astrology can be determined from 3 factors:
- AscendantIt is the first house in the horoscope. More and 8th lord.
- Mion sign and the ascendantIt is the first house in the horoscope. More lord.
- Ascedant lord and kaala hora lagna
Like this it can be calculated how long one can live.
LONG LIFE If both the factors are in movable sign. If anyone of them is in fixed sign and the other in dual sign.
MEDIUM LIFE both in dual sign. One in movable other in fixed sign.
SHORT LIFE both in fixed sign. One in movable other in dual sign.
Longevity Calculations in Vedic Astrology on the basis of Transits:
- Add the longitudes of Gulika,Sun and AscendantIt is the first house in the horoscope. More. When Jupiter in transit reaches this point death takes place.
- When Jupiter transits the trine to the sign of the lord of the above sign death occurs.
- When Jupiter transits the sign or its navamsha obtained by deducting longitude of Yamakantaka from the longitude of the ascendantIt is the first house in the horoscope. More lord.
According to prashna shashtra longevity Calculations in Vedic astrology Saturn’s first round of the zodiac chart Saturn gives death to alpayu,in the second round to medium ayu and the third round to long life people.
According to some classic method longevity Calculations in Vedic astrology for day born natives ,the longitudes of Sun and Saturn should be added and find out the constellation of that longitude. Death can occur at the time of dasha of that constellation lord. For night born natives constellation should be calculated by adding longitudes of moon and Rahu. Then death can take place in the dasha period of lord of that constellation.

The number of these signs are added to signs of above mentioned 6 houses. The grand total is multiplied by 12 and then divided by 10. That yields the span of life in years .e.g. in chart given below. We can calculate 3 + 6 + 7 + 9 + 11 + 12 = 48 + 33 = 81 × 12 / 10 = 97.2 years.
